As I tasted this wine with Massimo in the cellar, I dropped the wine thief on the floor and my expensive glass implement (that we use to draw out wine from the barrels) shattered in an explosion of shards. I really didn’t give a rat’s ass, because I just tasted the best wine we ever made. We knew this was going to be a special wine – for several reasons – but I really didn’t think it was going to turn out quite like this.

This Cabernet is a steal at this price. From a vineyard in Yountville where another winery canceled the grape buy. I was at the right place at the right time. Picked ripe at 26 brix – but not over ripe. Clone 877. 50% new French Oak. 15 months on wood. Extended cold soak. Long slow fermentation.
This is a young wine (duh) but shows very well. Extracted black fruit, firm tannins, long finish. Can age 10 years. Best if decanted. Can last a week on the counter – opened – with no gas.

Juicy ripe blackberry, boysenberry and raspberry fruit. Beautiful acidity and fine integrated tannins with just a dollop of french oak infused vanilla. On the finish flavors of Mexican mole, cigar box and mint. Classic St. Helena Cabernet for just a fraction of the price!!!
